Chez Garbo - A musical about Greta Garbo with Book, Music and Lyrics by Michaelangelo Alasá
In 1997, Peter Wyllie Johnston's article 'Garbo Sings!', which discussed Michaelangelo Alasá's musical was published in The Melburnian magazine in Australia. [The Melburnian, Volume 11 No. 11, 1997, p.28–29]
Johnston, while living in New York, had met and interviewed Alasá after seeing the musical twice. In April 1998, when the recording of the musical was in planning, the publishers of The Melburnian gave permission to Alasá to reprint the article as the liner notes for the CD. Special permission was also given by Gray Reisfield (Greta Garbo's niece) and the Garbo estate for the use of photographs of Miss Garbo's apartment and the publication of the article as liner notes. 'Garbo Sings!' was republished in Johnston's book 'From The Melburnian' (2011). Chez Garbo became the longest running production ever produced by a U.S. Latino theatre company, running for 520 performances. It was first presented in 1996-1997 for 200 performances.
